Choosing a Wedding Venue (and an amazing Photographer, like Alexanders Studios)

The Venue you select can have a huge influence on the mood and look of your wedding. Most venues work really hard to present a feel and look that become a signature of that venue. Finding the right place during the right time of the year for your wedding day can be a challenge.

I wanted to make you aware of two venues I recently had the pleasure of photographing weddings in.

First in the beginning of April I was in Elkin, NC at a beautiful barn themed venue called The Barn at Blueberry Hill. Notice I said "Barn Themed" venue. It is a lot of work to put together a winning venue but The Barn at Blueberry Hill has knocked it out of the park with this one!

The next venue is called The Belt Line Station, it is located in Durham, NC and it's the polar opposite of "The Barn" venue. As the name implies it's an old train depot, an actual loading dock. What makes this venue special is everything that surrounds it. It is part of a greater complex of very cool renovated buildings that have been updated but still hold their historical charm.

Alexanders Studios looks for unique and flexible venues to give couples the most options when it comes time for their photos. These venues, although different, share a combination of features that make them both winners in my book.
Wedding Photography can be challenging in certain venues, especially if they are very dark and small. Here are a few things for couples to consider when touring a venue, ask yourself these questions. How much natural light is available? What time of day will the best light be available in and around the venue. Are the prep rooms small or spacious? Is the venue naturally beautiful or will it require a great deal of decorating to look nice?
